Reiki is a Japanese word meaning universal (rei) life force (ki) energy. It was founded and developed by a Buddhist monk Mikao Usui in the early 20th Century. More commonly the word Reiki is used to describe a form of alternative medicine. Reiki is a powerful but gentle hands-on healing technique that works on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels and therefore can be useful for a wide range of conditions.
How does Reiki work?
Reiki works on the assumption that as living beings, we are part of a greater energetic system that nourishes and maintains life. This life force energy also flows through the energy channels of each individual and these channels are referred to as chakras, meridians and nadis. If the ki (life force) of and individual is weak or blocked, this might manifest as a physical or emotional disorder. During a Reiki session, the practitioner channels this life force energy to the patient in order to remove blockages and balance the patients energetic system. This can in turn bring out healing results at all levels of the patients being.
